Four Ways to Boost Your Courage Walking Through Doors of Opportunity

“The true meaning of courage is to be afraid, and then, with your knees knocking and your heart racing, to step out anyway—even when that step makes sense to nobody but you. I know that’s not easy. But making a bold move is the only way to truly advance toward the grandest vision the universe has for you.”

– Oprah

Fear of the unknown is often a deal breaker for many, then it’s a mind F*ck battle of should of, would of, could of and plenty of present time wasting in regret and thinking about the past. The good news is there is still time and now is the time to find courage in the event an opportunity comes knocking at the door.

Think of  all the possibilities of goodness that will come through IF you open the door and walk through…

  1. How would your life look different?

  2. How would you feel?

  3. More money?

  4. More visibility in your company?

  5. More time to yourself or with family?

  6. Travel on the horizon?

  7. New relationships to develop?

  8. Freedom with your time?

  9. Use of your education?

  10. A passion that is coming to life?

Whatever the possibilities, think them through, write them down and be excited about how your life can change for the GOOD and go for it! Below are FOUR Courageous Actions to get you moving in the direction you’ve been destined to do.

Start by closing your eyes and begin meditating and FEELING what it would be like to have this opportunity in your life. Create in your mind a moment or an experience of what it could be like in that new position, new relationship, new experience traveling somewhere, whatever it is… Imagine and don’t allow yourself to control, let it go and run wild with the feeling.

2. ADDRESS ALL your fears

As to why you shouldn’t take that chance – make a list and write down all the reasons, fears why:

  1. Not enough time

  2. I don’t have the money

  3. They will hurt me

  4. I’m too blah, blah BLAH…

  5. I have my family to think about…

  6. It’s too far

  7. But I don’t know where to live if I…

  8. What about if it goes wrong

  9. What if, what if, what if

Acknowledge that not knowing is scary sometimes and things can go wrong or not the way you thought they would go. The good thing about fear unleashing courage is that you’re allowing yourself to be aware and acknowledge the fear, it’s part of life, however if the #1 provides an exciting feeling and it scares you in a good way, it’s a sign that you SHOULD move to step 3.

2. TAKE THE STEP and make the decision

Allow yourself just a short period of time to think things through. For example, if you are considering accepting a new position, give it a 3-5 days at the most. If you’ve gotten the offer letter you should have a solid idea if the opportunity is for you. If it’s a new relationship, realize that if you feel you are wasting time, YOUR time that is… don’t let it linger too long because you could be taking the STEPS towards something better.

Give yourself the party you deserve for the courage to take the step into the unknown. Shop, dine out, bake yourself slutty brownies (if you don’t know what these are, you’re missing out) whatever it is take for you to acknowledge what you did was powerful because you show’d up for yourself.  You create what’s behind that door, so get after it!
